Rant: X gonna give it to ya...

So the stance I have on safety tools is the stance I have on sex: as long as it's consenting adults it's fine.  Who gives a shit?  I personally don't consent to safety tools.  There's a reason but it takes a story...

I had the X card dropped before a game, technically not an X card but one of those preliminary "I don't want this in the game" talks you're supposed to have with players nowadays.  In less than kind terms the player informed me that he doesn't morally agree with homosexuality, so he doesn't want it in the game.  Maybe it was an X card because I might have had it come up that an NPC was gay.  Sadly I can't perfectly remember the specifics, I wasn't expecting it to be an anecdote some day.  This was in the late 00s, maybe early 10s, before X cards were a thing.  In either case, I would think the shitlibs pushing safety tools would understand why I couldn't let that fly.  And my rationale is the same for those who want no spiders or snakes or other rather mundane things (especially in the context of a make believe game that all takes place in the participants' heads anyway).

I can't let one person's failings interfere with the game.  Leave that real world bullshit at the door.  The game is for putting your bullshit aside and playing someone who isn't you.  I know atheists who love playing Clerics (I mean, how silly is that?  Clerics are super lame), and it follows the same principle.  Now I don't engage in hyperbole, this is a real example.  Per my last rantish on this subject, I don't use the R word in games, because I've never seen it's inclusion add to a good time and can see how survivors of the R word would take offense to it.  I put that here because that's always the rebuttal.   If I don't include safety tools it is a welcome mat for the R word!  No, it's not.  Common sense and decency are the gatekeepers that keep that at bay.  Technically always have been.  The Adam Koebel situation shows that the X card can't make up for a lack of common sense and decency.  But that's a story I'm not going to tell.  Google it.
