Rant: Safety Tools, and YouTubers are near-universally pussies

This is a video about an absolute idiot and pussy who wouldn't have survived if he was a teenager in the 80s or 90s.  He would have taken the steam tunnels exit, I'm sure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XpVw_7Xm10

As usual don't bother clicking the video, I will summarize as I watch.

Three seconds in I can tell he's very flippant based on his statement of making a show he'd only made two entries to.  I can also tell he's some weird modern-era maximum-estrogen male.  He even has long nails along with a feminine demeanor.  Girlishly long hair.  Probably gay if not an outright they/them.  This is going to be a shit show, I can already tell.  This guy needs a haircut, to clip his nails with a knife, hit the gym, eat some steak, and hit up a shorty doggy-style in the bathroom.  I have a feeling he will do none of these ever in his life.  Modernity has taken him.  Pour one out for his parents who I'm sure are disappointed they won't have grandchildren with their family name.  As a nerd of Christmas past who ended up a male role model with a traditional wife and two non-weird kids, I feel sorry for them but at the same time not because they were definitely partially at fault for making this loser as soft as he is.  He should have had his ass busted and required to do more chores.  That's what builds proper male character.  Calluses.

""You should use safety tools in your game" is an easy thing to say without knowing what you're talking about or why"

Everyone who says "You should use safety tools in your game" doesn't know what they are talking about and damn sure don't know why.

He then laments that the conversation leading up to safety tools is not considered as important as the safety tools themselves, and frankly warns me off the Walking Dead Universe RPG by stating that there is a section on safety tools at all.  But back to the point.

The "conversation" is already pointless.  RPGs are already safe to anyone who isn't completely soft and unable to distinguish fantasy from reality.  Full stop.

He then goes through the section on safety tools in The Walking Dead Universe (TWDU) RPG and it reads like it was just put in to check a box because, follow me here, it was just put in to check a box.  Safety tools aren't necessary or worthwhile.  Everyone knows this, especially those smart enough to actually publish RPGs.  That's why when I find out a game includes them I know they were checking a box not marked quality and therefore can be safely skipped.  Hence my earlier point of dropping TWDU RPG in favor of literally anything else.  Because modern post-apoc zombies isn't a tough genre to emulate.

While reading through he hits "feels unsafe at the table".  You can only do that in two instances: Someone puts a loaded .45 on the table before the game starts, or you're a massive pussy who can't deal with normal human interaction, social structures, a job, a relationship, or life in general.  You are one of God's mistakes and it will be corrected at the end of your lifespan when you are summarily eaten by your many cats alone in your apartment.

He drones on for quite some time about how TWDU's paragraphs on safety tools is just checking boxes and not meaningful, as if any text regarding safety tools could ever be deemed meaningful by anyone sane for any reason.

That's the core problem with the video, the inability to understand that the companies including safety tools are doing it out of marketability, not necessity.  Safety tools are the definition of "unnecessary" in RPGs.  Someone who can actually facilitate a project to completion and have a game in the world and on bookshelves doesn't understand the tool's existence because they don't have a rationale that's worth understanding to a person who's already able to be a productive member of society in any regard.

"They are part of a much longer conversation about game safety" - No, they are part of a very short conversation regarding games already being safe and that useless woke zoomer snowflakes are the only ones who see any need in their existence.  Everyone else has common sense, dignity, and a sense of the difference between fantasy and reality.  This is all you need or have ever needed to enjoy RPGs.

Oddly he then goes on to explain by sheer accident why safety tools shouldn't exist in any way.  He pretends this is not reality but it indeed is, essentially paraphrasing my above points by stating that companies don't put said rationale behind the mechanics they make.  That's because it's fundamentally unnecessary.

After that he gets to "the point of the video" - "Safety tools are just tools for maintaining the game safety of the game that has already been discussed"  This is also fundamentally untrue.  Safety tools exist so woke snowflakes with mental disorders and pronouns in their bio can pretend their mental disorders aren't mental disorders and bend other non-insane people to their whims whenever it suits them.  They are for being a drama queen and getting everyone to look at you.  There is no problem with safety in RPGs and never has been.  Their existence is actually a symptom of the problem with our time in the world, the preponderance of social media, the narcissism that goes along with it, and the fad that was generated by the trans/alphabet movement which was fueled by such.

"There should be a discussion at the beginning of every game, before chargen, to give them an idea of the tone of the expected experience..."  Not exactly.  He then explains the wrong thing entirely, talking about joke characters vs serious characters.  As if they have any real estate in the conversation.  If, for example, you are tell someone you're going to run The Walking Dead and they show up with a joke character, this is bad form on their part.  The game itself informs the tone.   There's this thing adults do called talking, and if they had a question about bringing Mad Sax, a character derived from the sexy sax guy from Lost Boys and Mad Max as a character, they could indeed JUST ASK.  There doesn't need to be a conversation, just common sense and communication among participants.  And not everyone needs involved.  If running a serious game you don't need every player knowing you originally were going to run Mad Sax.  This is not difficult for a human who understands how to cohabitate a planet with other humans.

He then says the words "Safety tools (designed to hamper and censor the GM's creative process) could actually expand the possibilities of the game".  Which is so retarded I'm sure he took a helmet off before beginning recording.  I actually questioned this entire post at his point because I thought it would be mean of me to make fun of someone so mentally challenged in spite of them believing they were important enough to talk on this topic in any meaningful way.  Like if a retard is narcissistic, is it OK to point out the narcissism?  This was a real discussion I had with myself which had more nuance and point than the entirety of the rationale behind safety tools.

He drones on for a while and I wasn't really paying attention because of the contents of that last paragraph I typed.  He then says words that bring me out of this contemplation:

"Sometimes the best safety tool is simply not playing." - This is the correct safety tool for everyone who actually wants safety tools in RPGs.  They can't talk to people or distinguish fantasy from reality.  They should get help.  Not therapy because it's worthless.  Go to the gym, and go try to make friends somewhere.  When you have a friend, realize they don't think about you every second you are gone and neither does anyone else on this earth.  You are not the center of the universe and that's ok.  You're going to die someday and after that everyone you have ever met will die and nobody will think or talk about you ever again.  Just look at history.  I'm sure there are plenty of very important people from the 1200s that nobody ever talks about, even in history classes centuries get skipped over.  3000 BC for example.  I bet nobody reading this can name a person from 3000 BC that they have considered or talked about inside of the last 5 years.  In 5000 years, its likely nobody will remember even the biggest figures in history currently.  Hell, most people don't remember William Henry Harrison, and he is currently the president of the US with the shortest time in office.

Being able to internalize and understand your own unimportance is a step toward adulthood.  Too many nowadays have been taught they are the center of the universe and it simply isn't the case.  Stop being a pussy.
