Is the OSR Dying?

I see this question from time to time the last 20 years.  The OSR has been stated to be dying since it began.  That's because the core methodology is obsolete.  In that obsolesces is purity.  TSR is dead.  The OSR explicitly is stating TSR D&D compatibility, so there's always going to be this idea that is dying or dead because it refuses to evolve with the times.  But those who make that statement don't get the point.  The movement began on the idea that "evolving with the times" wasn't a worthwhile means to measure procedure.  Because of the OSR evolved with the times, it would become the same as the modern era of games.

That's not to say there isn't a draw, or an invading force in my kingdom trying to belittle the OSR by pushing safety, diversity, minimalism, and the low-effort, high-style, low-substance games and gameplay that result from that.  Oh no, that group is stronger now than it's ever been.  But it won't be around forever.  Because those aren't real fans.  The sheer lack of substance to their favorite "OSR" games means they have little attachment to the overall movement, design strategy, or playstyle.  It's a flight of fancy for them.  They're merely tourists.  And like tourists, they'll move on sooner or later to the next thing.

And when they leave, people will ask if the OSR is dying again.  No.  The real fans will remain.  The OSR is like the exclusive party at the back of a night club.  Not everybody in the club can go to the party.  They might even think they're at the party while dancing at the club with cheap strobe lights and cheaper drinks and an automated DJ running "Now That's What I Call Dance Party Music 4" on loop.  They may even be having fun in the club.  But the party is where the real fun lives.  That's where the celebrities snort blow of model's asses and everybody is drinking the expensive stuff and listening to live music and all the girlies are getting their tits out.  That party's going to be there regardless of how busy the night club is.
